BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Chandler Ball tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout to lift Liberty to a 4-0 victory over the Gardner-Webb softball team, in the final road game of the season, on Saturday afternoon at the LU Softball Stadium.
The Flames got dominant performances on the mound from all three of its pitchers in the three-game series, limiting Gardner-Webb to a combined .116 average at the plate, as well as just one run and two extra-base hits.
Despite the struggles at the plate, the Runnin' Bulldogs pitching staff combined for a 3.11 ERA on the weekend and limited LU to a team batting average on just .206 and just one extra-base hit.
Ashley Wark, making her third start of the season and the first since the third game of the season, went 3.1 innings, allowing five hits and four earned runs. Summer Darnell came on in relief on Wark, and did not allow a hit in 2.2 and struck out two.
Darnell was fantastic on the mound this week for Gardner-Webb, totaling a 0.81 ERA in 8.2 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out two.
Mickey Loveridge gave LU the lead with an RBI single in the second, which scored Katie Han.
Liberty broke the game open, adding three additional runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning.
Gardner-Webb tallied a base-hit in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but would fall 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return home for the final regular-season series, when they welcome Winthrop to the Brinkley Softball Stadium, Friday and Saturday. The two teams will play a doubleheader Friday, starting at 4:00 p.m. and will play a single game Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
