Gardner-Webb Finishes Fifth at the 2016 ECU Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C.- Gardner-Webb men's golf finished in fifth-place earning their second top-5 finish of the spring season at the 2016 ECU Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University at the 6,789, Par-72, Greenville Country Club in Greenville, S.C.
The team carded rounds of 314, 301 and 313 over the two-day, 54-hole, Intercollegiate event finishing wit a total score of 928, +64, good enough for the top-5 finish on the team leaderboard.
On the individual side of the things for the Runnin' Bulldogs junior Vincent Blanchette earned his second straight top-15 finish as he placed 14th overall amongst the 79 individuals playing this week. Blanchette's Intercollegiate got off to a bit of a bumpy start shooting an 82 in his first round, followed by a beautiful -4 under-par 68 in his second round of play before finishing with a 78 to total 228 (+12) strokes over his 54-holes of play.
Just behind Blanchette and coming off of a great weekend of golf this past week, which included being named the conference player of the week, was sophomore Aaron Thomas. Thomas carded opening and closing rounds of 77 coupled with a second-round 75 to finish just one stroke behind Blanchette with a total of 229 (+13) on his scorecard earning him a tie for 18th-place on the leaderboard.
Chris Jones was the next finisher for Gardner-Webb as the red-shirt junior offered up an opening round of 79 which he paired with 76's in his last two rounds of play landing him in a tie for 26th-place with the total score of 231 (+15).
Finishing out the GWU lineup card for the Intercollegiate was senior Clement Kurniawan, taking a tie for 64th overall, and sophomore Jake Kennedy who finished in the 67th position at the Intercollegiate. Kurniawan shot 81, 83 and 82 taking home the total of 246 (+30), while Kennedy carded the scores of 77, 82 and 88 earning 247 (+31) strokes over his three rounds of golf.
Host school East Carolina took home the top honors shooting 880 (+16) from rounds of 292, 284, and 304. The Pirates also garnered the top medalist honors at their own event as Al Dickens shot 72, 70 and 74 to finish at 216, even-par.
Gardner-Webb will participate in action on the course next at the Wofford Invitational hosted by Wofford College at the Spartanburg Country Club April 11-12.
