Women's Tennis Drops Conference Match At UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team (6-13, 3-6) dropped a Big South Conference match to UNC Asheville (7-8, 3-4) Tuesday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.

UNC Asheville took two of the three double's matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Rokia Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon managed a win at No. 2 doubles, defeating Ericka Rivero and Christin Louw 6-4. The victory was their fourth in a row.

Sacko battled tough at No. 1 singles, but fell in straight sets (7-6, 6-4) to Rivero. Catherine White forced three sets at the No. 5 spot, but came up short in the final set. She was defeated by Kylee Shipley (6-3, 5-7, 7-0).

The lone winner for the Runnin' Bulldogs came at No. 4 singles. Sarah Rieckmann won in straight sets, defeating Hunter Hall (6-3, 6-2).

Stina Magnusson, Sandra Bolstad and Laura Fermosel all lost in their respective singles matches.

Gardner-Webb will be back in action Saturday afternoon when they wrap up the regular season. They will host North Carolina Central for senior day with a start time set for 2 p.m.
