CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Gardner-Webb freshman Maximilian Scholl has been named the Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
This is the second weekly honor for Scholl, as he was also named the freshman of the week, Jan. 20.
Scholl posted perfect 4-0 marks at both the top singles and doubles position and helped the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 3-1 record, picking up victories over Wofford (4-0), at Longwood (5-2), at Liberty (4-3), with the lone defeat coming against Coastal Carolina (4-3), this past Saturday on senior day.
Just a freshman, Scholl has stepped into the lead role for GWU, posting a 13-7 record at both the no. 1 singles and doubles position. Currently, the freshman is on a 10-match win streak, as well a six-match win streak in doubles play.
In the match at Liberty, Scholl picked up a straight-set victory (7-5, 6-1) over Sam Matheson, who entered the match unbeaten and ranked number 106 in the country.
Paired with Nikita Zverkov, the GWU duo clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory against Coastal Carolina, to give the Runnin' Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead on the Chanticleers.
The Runnin' Bulldogs have won six of their last nine matches and return to the courts Friday, when they host Radford for the season-finale at 3:30 p.m.
