Gardner-Webb Falls To High Point, 19-3, Wednesday Night

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Amanda Steinmuller (Elliott, Md.) tallied two goals, and Monique Martin (Tyngsborough, Mass.) added four ground balls and three caused turnovers as High Point rode a strong first half to a 19-3 Big South Conference win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday evening.

High Point (8-4, 4-0 Big South) outscored Gardner-Webb (3-9, 1-3 Big South) by a 13-2 margin in the first half, while holding a 29-12 advantage in shots and a 19-4 edge in draw controls. The Panthers won the battle on the ground, 18-15, and converted 9-of-11 clear attempts. Gardner-Webb was credited with eight caused turnovers on the night.

Steinmuller was credited with two goals to push her season total to 18, while Alex Fusco (Marietta, Ga.) netted her 25th of the campaign. Emma Rufolo (Woodstock, Md.) scooped up five ground balls, as Martin recorded four ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers. Cassidy McDowell (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied eight saves between the pipes for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Allie Foard led the way with four goals and one assist for High Point, as Kristina Renner added a hat trick. Erica Perrotta, Emory Gang, Samantha Herman, Emily Meier and Natalie Devine each scored two goals, while Gang and Meier both dished out two assists. Renner posted three ground balls and a game-high six draw controls as Devine scooped up four ground balls. Molly Andrews and Victoria Lomangino combined for seven saves.

High Point started off strong, opening the scoring with a pair of Foard strikes before Fusco got one back for the Runnin' Bulldogs to trim the margin to 2-1 at the 22:25 mark. The Panthers would answer with six straight tallies to push the lead to 8-1 on Foard's third strike of the night with 15:17 left in the first half.

Steinmuller countered with her 17th goal of the season moments later to cut the lead to 8-2 at the 12:58 mark. High Point would close the first half on a 5-0 spurt to take a 13-2 advantage into the break.

The Panthers carried the momentum into the second half, scoring the first three goals of the period to widen the gap to 16-2 with 25:32 to play. Steinmuller answered back for the Runnin' Bulldogs at the 17:59 mark, scoring her second of the night and 18th of the season to trim the margin to 16-3. High Point finished the night with a trio of late goals to cap the scoring.

Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday, April 9 when the Runnin' Bulldogs host Coastal Carolina (6-5, 2-2 Big South) in conference play at 6:00 pm in Spangler Stadium.
