BOILING SPRINGS, N.C – The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team (10-11, 4-4) defeated Big South opponent Radford (2-14 1-6) 5-2 Friday afternoon to wrap up the regular season.
Radford stole the doubles point to start off the match, but the Runnin' Bulldogs won five of the six singles matches to secure the match.
Maximilian Scholl continued his hot stretch by winning his eleventh match out of his last twelve at No. 1 singles. He handed Janken Theon a (6-0, 6-2) loss.
Adam Schmidt also picked up a victory in straight sets, defeating Michel Meekers (6-3, 6-4) at the No. 5 position.The difference make came in the matches that were decided in three sets. Four matches went the distance, and Gardner-Webb won three of them.
Nikita Zverkov was victorious in his singles match, beating Samuel Taylor (6-1, 6-7, 6-3) in the No. 2 slot.
Yaroslav Prostakov and Jonathan Walker also picked up wins in Friday's match. Prostakov got the best of Alexandros Caldwell (5-7, 6-3, 7-6) at No. 3 singles, while Walker also came from behind to defeat Jose Manzano Moreno (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) at the No. 6 position.
Benjamin Kaszas battled tough, but fell to Nikhil Mannepalli (6-1, 3-6, 6-1) at No. 4 singles.
The lone doubles winner for the Runnin' Bulldogs came at the No. 1 slot. Scholl and Zverkov blanked Caldwell and Thoen 6-0.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action April 12th when play Big South Tournament play begins at Liberty.
