ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Taylor Fisher and Paul Trick each reached base four times Saturday afternoon, as Gardner-Webb pounded out 19 hits to take a 12-1 win over UNC Asheville at Greenwood Field.

The win clinches the series for Gardner-Webb (33-18, 11-9 Big South), its first league series win away from home since March, 2015, at Winthrop.

The Runnin' Bulldogs wasted no time taking complete control of Saturday's game, plating seven runs in the top of the first inning on six hits.

Fisher started the rally from his leadoff spot, legging out an infield single. The red-hot Trick followed with a sharp single to left and Justin Kunz loaded the bases when he was plunked. An error allowed Fisher to score for the 1-0 advantage and Danny Sullivan ripped a two-run double down the left field line for a 3-0 edge.

Patrick Graham followed with an RBI single up the middle and Mason Fox's RBI fielder's choice made it 5-0. Jacob Walker kept the blitz going with a single and Matt Simmons pushed the lead to 6-0 with a sacrifice fly to center.

Fisher came back around and added to the score, plating Walker with an RBI single to left to cap the rally.

UNC Asheville (16-33, 5-15 Big South) got on the board with a two-out single from Danny Wilson in the bottom of the first, but would not be able to get anything going the rest of the way.

Gardner-Webb pushed its lead to 9-1 in the third, with Graham walking and moving to third on a double by Fox. Simmons delivered a two-run single to right to drive that pair home.

A walk by Fisher to lead off the fifth started another rally and Trick followed with a single to put two on board. Kunz belted a sacrifice fly to center to make the score 10-1 and Sullivan capped the fifth-inning burst with an RBI double – giving Gardner-Webb an 11-1 lead.

Fox – who earned All-State honors at nearby Pisgah (N.C.) High – collected his second double of the day to lead off the top of the fifth and scored on a double play for the final margin.

Hard-throwing junior Jeremy Walker (8-4) picked up the win Saturday, tossing 6.0 strong innings. The Advance, N.C., native fanned seven, walked three and allowed one run on just four hits. Andrew Massey came on to earn his first save of the season, tossing 3.0 perfect innings with three strikeouts out of the pen.

Fisher (3-for-3, 2 runs, RBI), Trick (3-for-5, 2 runs) and Jacob Walker (3-for-5, run) led Gardner-Webb offensively with three hits each. Fox (2-for-3, 2 2B), Sullivan (2-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI) and Graham (2-for-3, RBI) each had two hits for the 'Dogs. Will Canady (1-for-2), Kunz (1-for-2, RBI), Gage Parham (1-for-1) and Simmons (1-for-4, 4 RBI) also had hits for the visitors.

UNC Asheville starter Jordan Carr (1-8) took the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits in just 1.0 inning of work. The host Bulldogs used six different pitchers in the game.

Pete Guy (1-for-4, 2B), Lucas Owens (1-for-4), Joe Tietjen (1-for-4) and Wilson (1-for-2, RBI) had the four hits for UNC Asheville.

The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch set for 1:00 pm at Greenwood Field. The game will air live on The Big South Network (bigsouthsports.com).
