CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams had an outstanding day at the Queen City Invite hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Creek Park, as nearly each member of the two teams set new personal records.
The meet started with the women's 5k race, in which
Gabby Cortese paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 18:56.92.
Hannah Jones followed with a personal-best time of 20:14.08, and
Rachel White clocked in at 20:40.46, setting a new PR.
Sydney Davis finished the course with a new personal-best time of 20:41.85, followed by
Logan McGuirt who timed in at 20:48.01, a new PR.
Amy Turlington finished with a time of 21:00.97, setting a new PR, and
Michaela Williams rounded out the GWU runners with a new personal-best time of 21:06.66.
Mitchell Brown led the men's squad in the 8k race, crossing the line at 26:01.17, setting a new PR. He was followed by
Keaton Poole with a new personal-best time of 26.26.37. Brown's time is the fifth-fastest time in an 8k race in GWU history, while Poole's time ranks eighth-best in program history.
Josh Parks finished the course with a new personal-best time of 26:58.27, followed by
Ezekiel Martin who clocked in at 27:23.39, a new PR. Sam Hermanns had a time of 32:48.60, and Bodgan Podgaisky rounded out the field of GWU runners, timing in at 34:56.62 in their first GWU event at the 8k distance.
Gardner-Webb now readies itself for the 2017 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships, which take place on Saturday, October 28 in Lynchburg, Va.
