October 13, 2017 | Men's Golf
CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb golfer Patrick Wu was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week on Friday afternoon, his second honor from the league this fall season.
Wu (Taipei, Taiwan) led the Runnin' Bulldogs once again at the 2017 Tar Heel Intercollegiate, finishing 20th individually in a very tough field of golfers. The 6-foot-4 freshman fired a 4-under par for the event to keep pace with the field.
Wu ranked fourth among all individual golfers with 16 birdies over his 54 holes, shooting back-to-back rounds of 72 to start the tournament. He finished with a low round of 68 on the final day to move under par for good.
It marked the second-straight event that Wu led Gardner-Webb's contingent in scoring.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action next week, traveling to the 2017 Elon Phoenix Invitational on October 16-17. Gardner-Webb is the defending team champion at the event – which will be held at the Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C. (Par 71, 5,048 yards).
