GWU Men's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season Sunday At Camden Collegiate

CAMDEN, S.C. – Gardner-Webb men's golf shot its best team round of the weekend on Sunday, moving up two spots to finish 15th at the 2017 Camden Collegiate Invitational, hosted by South Carolina.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (299-299-296-894) finished five strokes in front of Columbia and 18 strokes ahead of Charleston Southern. GWU was within three strokes of 14th-place Radford. The host Gamecocks won the event with a 54-hole score of 841 (+1).
The tournament was played on the 6,455-yard Camden Country Club course (Par 70). Pin placements were reported as very difficult for Sunday's final round.
Gardner-Webb was led by veteran Aaron Thomas, who had his best round on Saturday, carding a 72 in the second round. Thomas (77-72-77-226) finished in a tie for 54th position for the weekend.
Chad Phillips (78-72-78-228) also shot his best round during Saturday's second 18 holes and finished in a tie for 60th individually.
Steffen Smith (71-81-74-226), Patrick Wu (73-79-73-225) and Jonathan Henry (78-76-72-226) rounded out the scoring for Gardner-Webb.
The tournament in Camden, S.C., was the final fall event for the Gardner-Webb men. Up next is the spring opener on February 26-27 at the 2018 Wexford Intercollegiate on Hilton Head Island.
