ROCK HILL, S.C. –
Allison Chandler led the way with a 13th-place finish individually, helping Gardner-Webb women's golf to eighth at the 2017 Winthrop Intercollegiate.
The 36-hole tournament was played at the Rock Hill Country Club.
Chandler finished just one stroke back of a tie for 10th and was only five strokes off of a top-5 finish. She finished her first 18 holes with a 74 and carded a 79 on the final day to finish at 153 (+9) for the tournament.
Gardner-Webb lowered its team score by four strokes in the second round, however, moving up to eighth. GWU finished six strokes ahead of fellow Big South program Radford.
High Point won the team title, with host Winthrop only two strokes back.
In addition to Chandler, Gardner-Webb was aided by
Julia Henderson (83-78-161), who lowered her score by five strokes on Sunday to finish in a tie for 30th individually.
Morgan Laird (81-82-163) finished 38th individually,
Kristen Wong (86-81-167) finished 44th and
Lindsay Koppel (88-84-172) finished in 50th position.
Gardner-Webb will continue a busy stretch on the links Monday, traveling down I-85 to play in the 2017 Terrier Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Spartanburg. The Runnin' Bulldogs will tee of beginning at 10:00 am.
