BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's swim team welcomed Liberty University and Georgia Southern to Bost Pool this evening for their third meet of the season. The Runnin' Bulldogs topped Georgia Southern 187 to 74, but fell to Liberty 166.5 to 94.5.
Mary Traylor and
Bethany Leap led the way for the Runnin' Bulldogs as they each collected first-place finishes, followed by strong performances by
Jessi Snover.
"I am so proud of our women for racing tough, and not being intimidated in the least," said head coach
Mike Simpson. "We saw many great swims and huge season drops in time. The women stayed with it for the entire night bringing great energy and enthusiasm," he continued.
In the 400 IM,
Mary Traylor topped the competition as she collected a first-place finish in a time of 4:32.88.
Bethany Leap also gathered a first-place finish for the Runnin' Bulldogs as she won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.51.
Jessi Snover continued her strong freshman campaign as she placed collected two second-place finishes. In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Snover finished second with a time of 57.13 followed by teammate
Tessa Walsh coming in at 57.71. In the 200 Free, Snover also finished second with a time of 1:55.08 followed by Runnin' Bulldog Lili Toth who had a good day in the pool as she finished this event in 1:56.13.
In the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, Gardner-Webb placed second and third as
Lauren Oglesby completed with a time of 10:35.83, followed by Morgan Vandershaaf who finished in 10:44.31.
Leap continued her strong day as she raced to a second-place finish at time of 2:22.20. Vandershaaf went on to gather a third-place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:13.49.
The Runnin' Bulldogs also showed well in the 200 Yard Backstroke as
Mary Traylor finished second coming in at 2:08.69, outpacing teammate Laura Siebrecht at 2:09.76. Following Traylor and Siebrecht would be a string of Runnin' Bulldogs including
Spencer Lucas (2:10:29) and
Hope Saunders (2:12.08).
In a quick turnaround, Gardner-Webb returns to Bost Pool tomorrow morning at 9:30 as they face Limestone College.
