Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Each Place Eighth at Big South Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams each earned eighth-place finishes at the 2017 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships, ran this morning on the campus of Liberty University.
 
The meet began with the men's 8K race, in which Keaton Poole led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 28:10.9.  He was closely followed by Mitchell Brown, who timed in at 28:11.0.  Josh Parks completed the course with a time of 28:58.9, followed by Ezekiel Martin at 29:32.9.  Rounding out the field for the men's squad were Patrick Sastre at 30:54.5, Sam Hermanns at 35:49.8, and Bodgan Podgaisky at 36:53.1.
 
Campbell's Amon Kemboi placed first in the men's event, crossing the finish line at 24:14.7.  The Camels were also the overall men's champions.
 
Gabby Cortese led the women's team in the 5K race, finishing with a time of 19:33.3.  Sydney Davis clocked in at 21:18.7, followed by Rachel White at 21:30.6.  Hannah Jones finished with a time of 21:41.4, and rounding out the field for GWU were Michaela Williams at 22:00.2, Logan McGuirt at 22:01.8, Amy Turlington at 22:03.8, and Brittany Ollivierre at 23:15.3
 
Famke Heinst of High Point won the women's race, clocking in at 17:55.1.  The Panthers were also the overall women's champions.
