Women's Swimming Outpaces Limestone 117-69

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's swim team returned to Bost Pool this morning as they took down Limestone College by a score of 117 to 69. In a quick turnaround following last night's meet against Liberty and Georgia Southern, the Runnin' Bulldogs captured five first-place finishes along with multiple other dominant performances.
 
"The women's team had a chance to try some different events, and they did a nice job," said head coach Mike Simpson. "It was tough coming back from the emotions of last night's battle, but they refocused when they walked in this morning," Simpson continued.
 
In the 200 Yard Free, Carol Zangla led the way as she raced to a first-place finish with a time of 1:58.38. Kelsey Williams followed behind Zangla as she took second with a time of 2:00.51. A trio of Runnin' Bulldogs gathered the third, fourth and fifth place finishes in the order of Spencer Lucas (2:03.30), Kelli Croft (2:03.33), and Lauren Oglesby (2:03.39).
 
Gardner-Webb also showed well in the 100 Yard IM and 50 Yard Butterfly as they collected the top three spots in each event. In the 100 IM, Lili Toth led the way as she claimed victory with a time of 1:00.00 followed by Bethany Leap (1:02.14) and Mary Traylor (1:02.53). In the 50 Yard Butterfly, Tessa Walsh topped the competition with a time of 26.70, followed by fellow Runnin' Bulldogs Audrey Robinson (26.92) and Mackenzie Ropka (27.22).
 
Charity Bennett (28.22) claimed herself a first-place finish in the 50 Yard Backstroke as she topped teammate Laura Siebrecht (28.44) in a close race.
 
Tessa Walsh also claimed a first-place finsh for GWU as she topped Limestone competitors with a winning-time of 25.37.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs also showed well in the 400 Medley as the relay team of Mary Traylor, Lili Toth, Kelsey Williams and Tessa Walsh took first with a time of 4:02.96. Gardner-Webb's relay team of Lindsey Wright, Morgan Vandershaaf, Carol Zangla, and Cary Pou took second as they finished in 4:10.74.
 
Gardner-Webb is back in action next as they are set to compete in the Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C. on Nov. 17-19.
