CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb freshman Patrick Wu has been named Big South Conference men's golf Freshman of the Week following an outstanding individual performance.
Wu (Taipei, Taiwan) led the Runnin' Bulldogs to the team title at the 2017 Hummingbird Intercollegiate, finishing at 6-under par and fourth individually for the tournament.
The 6-foot-2 freshman holed out 14 birdies over 54 holes, which was among the tournament leaders individually. That mark also helped Gardner-Webb lead the event as a team with 50 birdies.
Wu carded a 67 to open the tournament and finished the first 36 holes tied for first place at 8-under par. His final 54-hole score of 207 paced a strong effort by the Gardner-Webb team.
GWU fired a 54-hole tournament record for the Hummingbird.
Head coach Tee Burton and his squad will head to Chapel Hill, N.C., this weekend for the Tar Heel Intercollegiate (October 7-October 8), hosted by the University of North Carolina.
