BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to High Point in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers took the sets by scores of 25-16, 25-9, and 25-12.
With the loss, Gardner-Webb falls to 7-12 on the season and 1-5 in Big South play, while High Point improves to 13-6 overall and 6-0 in league action.
The Runnin' Bulldogs hit -.095 percentage for the match with 19 kills, while the Panthers attacked at a .280 percentage with a total of 30 kills.
Kaelyn Dyson led GWU on the attack, racking up six kills on 21 attempts, hitting at a team-high .143 clip. Dyson also had two blocks on the afternoon.
Maria Emmick led the team with a total of three blocks, while
Tyra Long and
Keira Moore also had two blocks throughout the match.
Emma Milstead collected 12 digs to lead the team and
Amanda Sahm tallied a team-high nine assists on the afternoon.
High Point was led offensively by Haley Barnes, who had a match-high nine kills on 19 swings. Molly Livingston had seven kills to go along with a match-high five blocks.
Abby Bottomley led the Panthers with a match-high 13 digs while Jenna Smith had a match-high 14 assists.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, October 10, hosting Presbyterian at 7:00 pm in Paul Porter Arena. The game will be broadcast live on the Big South Network (
www.bigsouthsports.com) and will be the team's annual "Dig Pink" game in which the tam will look to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
