BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb took control early and captured a convincing 6-1 home win over North Carolina A&T Thursday in women's tennis action.
It was the third win in a row for Gardner-Webb (8-4), which improved to 7-1 at home with the victory. GWU has won five out of its last six matches overall.
The Runnin' Bulldogs swept through the doubles flights, getting a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles from Sandra Bolstad and Daniela Naupari to get off to a quick start. Catherine White and Sarah Rieckmann continued with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and Mary Walker Mixon and Miljana Ristic capped the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Rieckmann saw her play carry over to singles action, finishing quickly at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win. White followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles and Naupari sealed the team win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles.
The Aggies broke up the sweep with a win at No. 4 singles, but Bolstad (5-7, 7-5, 10-5) and Laine Parker (win by default) closed out the win.
Gardner-Webb continues its four-match home stand on Friday, hosting Campbell at 2:00 pm in Big South action.
