Kaylee Wacaster Named Big South Softball Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb sophomore Kaylee Wacaster has been named Big South Conference softball Player of the Week following a strong performance at the plate over the weekend.
Wacaster (Boiling Springs, N.C. / Crest HS) sizzled in Gardner-Webb's series at Campbell, batting .667 (6-of-9) with four runs scored and eight RBI in that three-game set.
She started off with a fine performance in the opener of Friday's doubleheader, belting a three-run home run as part of a 2-for-3 game at the plate. Wacaster was even better in the nightcap, going 3-for-4 with another three-run home run and five RBI in a 16-9 win over the Fighting Camels.
Wacaster closed the series by going 1-for-2 at the plate with another run scored.
She hit .412 for the week in five starts and forged an impressive .545 on base percentage – taking advantage of four walks and a hit by pitch plate appearance in addition to her base hits. Wacaster also slugged a powerful .765 in five games, giving her a 1.310 OPS for the week.
Wacaster has started 44 games this season for the Runnin' Bulldogs and ranks third on the team with a .275 batting average. She ranks second with 39 hits, seven doubles and 26 RBI – and also ranks second with three home runs. She paces the Gardner-Webb stat sheet with 25 runs scored and five stolen bases – while fielding a clean .984 in center field.
Gardner-Webb returns home Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader, hosting Furman at Brinkley Softball Stadium. Game one is set for 4:00 pm and will air live on The Big South Network (bigsouthsports.com).
