GREENVILLE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb women's golf rallied with a final round of 304 Tuesday to finish ninth at the 2017 ECU Pirate Collegiate Classic.
The 54-hole tournament was played at the Greenville Country Club.
Sophomore
Wassawan Sangkapong (Mim) led the way with a final round of 73, finishing in a tie for 29th for the event (77-78-73-228). She was followed closely by veteran
Julia Henderson (77-76-77-230) in 34th place individually.
Allison Chandler (78-77-76-231) finished in a tie for 37th for the Runnin' Bulldogs, while
Morgan Laird (80-79-78-237) finished in a tie for 59th and
Lindsay Koppel (80-79-79-238) took 62nd.
Chandler, who emerged as a strong competitor last season as a true freshman, led the tournament in Par 5 scoring (-7).
Gardner-Webb finished three strokes in front of Charleston Southern in ninth position, overtaking the Bucs in the final round. The Runnin' Bulldogs finished just off the pace of eighth-place Presbyterian (923) and seventh-place High Point (922).
Host East Carolina sizzled throughout the event, carding 280-299-286-865) to win the tournament by 13 strokes over Western Kentucky.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will break next week, before getting back to action on October 16-17 at the 2017 Bill Berg Invitational in Hayesville, N.C.
