CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Gardner-Webb wrapped up competition at the 2018 Southern Scuffle, presented by Compound Sportswear, with 13 wrestlers competing at the annual two-day event.

Veteran Tyler Marinelli entered the event seeded eighth in a tough 157-pound weight class, and won his first two matches on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals. There, the Jefferson, Ga., junior went up against defending NCAA Wrestler of the Year and national champion Jason Nolf of top-ranked Penn State, with Nolf pinning Marinelli to advance to the semifinals.

Marinelli dropped a 6-4 decision in the consolation round to Appalachian State's Laken Cook.

Five other Runnin' Bulldogs picked up at least one win in the consolation round, with Philip Anderson (133), Landon LoAlbo (141), Dallas Roemer (141), Christian Maroni (174) and Lathan Bumgarner (285) each bouncing back from early losses.

Gardner-Webb will get back to Southern Conference action next week, hosting Appalachian State on January 10 at 7:00 pm. That match is the first of three consecutive in Paul Porter Arena – as GWU remains at home throughout the month of January.
