Swimming Honored by CSCAA, Women Boast Nation's Third Highest GPA

NORFOLK, VA – The Gardner-Webb men and women's swimming teams were among two of the 688 squads honored by College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America as Scholar All-America teams for the Fall 2017 semester.
The 688 teams represented 430 schools across the nation. To receive the status of Scholar All-America, teams had to achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Runnin' Bulldogs men's squad finished the fall semester with a 3.27 GPA, while the women boasted a 3.70. The ladies had the third highest GPA among Division I teams, behind only Drexel (3.77) and Grand Canyon (3.72).
"I'm thrilled that both our teams have received this incredible honor and been recognized by the CCSA," stated head coach Mike Simpson. "At Gardner-Webb we strive for excellence in the pool and the classroom. This is proof that our athletes not only value their time in the pool but take their studies incredibly seriously. The men had a great semester in the classroom, as did the women who had the third highest GPA in the country. I am proud of each of our athlete's commitment to academic excellence. "
The Runnin' Bulldogs wrapped up their 2017-18 regular season on Saturday by splitting with the Davidson Wildcats. The GWU men suffered a 165-97 setback, while the women topped Davidson, 157-123. Next, both squads will hit the pool for the CCSA Championships in Athens, Georgia. The meet will run from Wednesday, February 14 – Saturday, February 17.
