BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb senior guard
Alexus Hill has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played January 1-7, as announced by the league office this afternoon.
Hill (Rocky Mount, N.C. / Northern Nash H.S.) scored a season-best 24 points in an 83-80 overtime loss at High Point on Tuesday evening, making 8-of-18 attempts from the floor, as well as going 8-of-11 from the free throw line. She also had seven rebounds and two assists.
Saturday afternoon, Hill had 19 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting performance, including a perfect 3-of-3 from long distance and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Her performance helped lead GWU to a 69-53 win over Radford.
Hill is having a solid senior campaign thus far, averaging career bests with 15.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. She opened the 2017-18 season with her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Pfeiffer on November 10 and has led the Runnin' Bulldogs in scoring on five occasions.
Gardner-Webb (11-3, 1-1 Big South) returns to action tomorrow morning at 11:30 am at Longwood. The game will be broadcast live on the Big South Network (www.bigsouthsports.com).
