Scholl Leads Gardner-Webb at ITA Regionals

Cary, N.C. – Maximilian Scholl led Gardner-Webb at the ITA Regionals hosted by Duke University, making a run to the Round of Eight in singles play in what head coach Mike Griffith called, "the deepest regional field in many years."

In addition to Scholl, Griffith three other Runnin' Bulldogs – Johan Fors, Millen Hurrion, and Breno Plentz – to compete in the regionals.

"I felt this was the deepest regional field in many years," said Griffith. "Every school in the Carolinas is here except for one, and as you get deeper into the regional you're playing extremely tough competition. There were no easy matches, and I can't say enough about the effort of the four guys. Getting as far as we did shows how good we can be. Max (Scholl) and Millen (Hurrion) both played seven hours on Saturday and were real warriors. I'm very proud of our guys and can't wait to get on the court and play again."

Below are details are on each athlete's performance at the regionals

Fors opened play against UNC Asheville's Oli Nolan and won the second set, 6-4, but was defeated in the opening round in three sets.
