SAPPHIRE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb shot a three-round score of 858 in men's golf action, finishing 11th at the 2018 Hummingbird Intercollegiate Tuesday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished two shots ahead of host Western Carolina in the tournament, which featured 15 Division I teams from around the southeast. Georgia Southern won the event by 13 strokes over second-place Morehead State.
The tournament was once again played on the 6,767-yard Country Club of Sapphire Valley course (Par 71).
Veteran
Jonathan Henry paced Gardner-Webb for the tournament, finishing in a tie for 14th individually. Henry fired a low round of 68 on Tuesday to wrap up a solid event, which saw him shoot at or below par in each of the three rounds (70-71-68-209).
Henry shot two under on his back nine Tuesday, sinking birdies on the 12th and 14th holes. He finished on the front nine, posting three birdies to finish his day with a 68.
Zack Byers (71-70-71-212) also stayed at or under par in each of the three rounds to settle into a tie for 26th.
Steffen Smith (71-71-72-214) finished tied for 33rd,
Andy Yang (73-73-77-223) finished tied for 67th and
Patrick Wu (78-74-83-235) finished 82nd.
