Marinelli Named All-Conference, GWU Tabbed Fourth in Preseason SoCon Wrestling Coaches Poll

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Gardner-Webb wrestling was picked to finished fourth in the 2018-19 Southern Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, while redshirt senior Tyler Marinelli was named to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference team, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Gardner-Webb received 21 total points in the poll. Appalachian State was chosen as the preseason favorite by the league's coaches, followed by Campbell and Chattanooga.
Marinelli received league preseason honors at the 157-pound weight class. The SoCon's defending champion at that weight class went 26-8 overall last season, including a 6-1 record against SoCon opponents, and enters the 2018-19 season ranked 14th by InterMat, 17th by The Open Mat, and 18th by both FloWrestling and WIN Magazine.
The Runnin' Bulldogs open the 2018-19 season on the road on Friday, November 2, taking on Clarion at 7:00 pm. GWU will also take part in the 2018 Clarion Open the following day.
