Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Each Place 11th at Big South Championships

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams each earned 11th place finishes at the 2018 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships, ran this morning at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville, N.C.
The meet began with the women's 5K race, in which Hannah Jones paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 21:17.1. She was followed by Amy Turlington at 21:26.4. Sandra Bolstad clocked in at 21:30.0, and rounding out the field for GWU were Courtney Kanetzke at 23:16.3 and Faith Parandhamaia at 23:36.2.
Famke Heinst of High Point was the individual champion, clocking in at 17:53.8. The Panthers also took home the overall women's title.
Patrick Sastre was Gardner-Webb's top finisher in the men's 8K race, timing in at 29:38.3. Ezekiel Martin followed with a time of 29:40.3. Sam Hermanns timed in at 32:53.1, and rounding out the field for GWU were Bogdan Podgaisky at 33:06.1 and Nathaniel Sayles at 35:10.6
Campbell's Lawrence Kipkoech was the individual champion with a time of 25:07.3. The Camels were also the overall men's championship.
Following the races, both Amy Turlington and Bogdan Podgaisky were named to the 2018 Big South Conference Cross Country All-Academic teams.
