Men's Swimming Defeats Mount St. Mary's, Falls to Old Dominion and BYU at All-American Celebration Meet This Weekend

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Gardner-Webb men's swimming team collected seven podium finishes, competing against BYU, Mount St. Mary's, and Old Dominion at the two-day All-American Celebration meet, hosted by Liberty University at the Liberty Natatorium.
 
Gardner-Webb defeated Mount St. Mary's, 249.5-61.5, but fell to Old Dominion, 218-128 and to BYU, 271-75.
 
Action started Friday evening with the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the grouping of Brady Fields, Jordan Mintz, Seggio Bernardina, and Zach Dingfield earn a second-place result, clocking in at 1:33.62.
 
Chase Mattingly placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 4:44.26.  Peter Wakeley placed seventh at 4:49.23.
 
In the 200-yard IM, Christian Jann earned a fifth-place finish, timing in at 1:56.31.
 
Brady Fields took home a third-place result in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 53.82 seconds.  Cullen Fields placed seventh at 54.31 seconds.
 
In the 50-yard freestyle, Zach Dingfield timed in at 21.58 seconds to place third overall.  Jonathan Frye finished in eighth with a time of 22.05 seconds.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle, Chase Mattingly finished in sixth with a time of 1:44.68, followed by Drew Mintz in eighth at 1:46.76.
 
Jordan Mintz placed fifth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 58.23 seconds.  Jonathan Frye finished sixth, timing in at 58.69 seconds.
 
Cullen Fields led a trio of top finishers for GWU in the 100-yard butterfly, timing in at 52.28 seconds for a fifth-place result.  Peter Wakeley placed sixth at 52.46 seconds, and Seggio Bernardina came home in seventh at 52.84 seconds.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Zach Dingfield, Seggio Bernardina, Brady Fields, and Chase Mattingly timed in at 1:26.97 to take home a third-place result.  The grouping of Jonathan Frye, Ethan Long, Christian Jann, and Drew Mintz followed in fourth, timing in at 1:28.12.
 
GWU had a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, as the team of Brady Fields, Jordan Mintz, Cullen Fields, and Zach Dingfield timed in at 3;29.45.  The team of Will Anderson, Jonathan Frye, Brendan Teeters, and Ethan Long placed fourth at 3:34.32.
 
Chase Mattingly earned a fifth-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 10:02.36.
 
In the 100-yard freestyle, Zach Dingfield timed in at 47.56 seconds, good enough for a fourth-place finish.
 
Cullen Fields placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:57.05.  Will Anderson finished in eighth at 1:59.76.
 
Jordan Mintz earned a third-place result in the 200-yard breaststroke, timing in at 2:06.76.  Jonathan Frye finished in fifth at 2:10.44.
 
In the 200-yard butterfly, Peter Wakeley timed in at 1:58.69 to take home a fifth-place finish.  Cullen Fields placed seventh with a time of 2:00.72.
 
Christian Jann clocked in at 4:10.62 in the 400-yard IM to earn a fourth-place finish.  Chase Mattingly finished in sixth place with a time of 4:12.16.
 
The last event was the 400-yard freestyle relay, which saw the team of Brady Fields, Seggio Bernardina, Eithan Long, and Zach Dingfield place third with a time of 3:12.62.  The team of Peter Wakeley, Chase Mattingly, Christian Jann, and Dowdy Sarvis placed fifth at 3:15.10.
 
The next event for the Runnin' Bulldogs will be the Fall Frenzy Invitational, taking place the weekend of Friday, November 16 – Sunday, November 18 in Charlotte, N.C.
