Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play at UNCG's Spartan Classic

Greensboro, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team took the short drive to Greensboro, N.C. to face off against North Carolina Central, Campbell and the host school, UNC Greensboro, over two days.

At the end of the tournament, Miljana Ristic was declared the overall in the No. 1 singles flight, while Valentine Limauge was declared the winner of the No. 4 singles flight. At No. 3 singles, Mayumi Saguchi went defeated. Below are notes from each day of action at the Spartan Classic.

Saturday Action
Vs. North Carolina Central (Doubles)
In doubles play, Gardner-Webb took all three matches from the North Carolina Central Eagles, beginning with Ristic and Limauge earning a 6-0 win in the No. 1 position. At No.2, Daniela Naupari and Saguchi teamed up for a 6-2 win, while newcomers Milica Panic and Adrienne Vesely earned a 6-3 in the No.3 spot.

Vs. Campbell (Singles)
Gardner-Webb won three of the six singles matches against the Fighting Camels of Campbell earning victories in the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions. In the No. 2 flight, Naupari won in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7, playing a super tiebreaker in the third set. Saguchi and Valentine won in straight sets at No. 3 and No.4. Saguchi defeated Isabel Boada, 6-1, 6-4, while Limague topped Imna Revert, 6-3, 6-2.

Vs. UNCG (Singles)
The Runnin' Bulldogs battled the UNCG Spartans for its second round of singles action, with Ristic and Limauge both earning wins. Playing in the No. 1 position, Ristic did not allow her opponent, UNCG's Nancy Bridges, to win a game, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Valentine Limauge fell to the Spartans' Sophie Adams, while Saguchi continued her stellar play by defeating Brianna Gomez.

Sunday Action
Vs. UNCG (Doubles)
The 'Dogs began the final day of action taking on the Spartans in doubles play. With three teams competing, UNCG took 2-of-3 matches, but Gardner-Webb was victorious in the No. 1 flight. Ristic and Limauge teamed up to defeat Ory and Bridges, 6-3.

Vs. Campbell (Doubles)
In their second doubles matchup of the afternoon, two Runnin' Bulldog pairings battled the Fighting Camels. Ristic and Limauge were defeated in the No. 1 flight, 6-3, while Vesely and Saguchi won their match at No. 2, 6-3.

Vs. NCCU (Singles)
Gardner-Webb ended the tournament by reeling off five singles matches against the NCCU Eagles. Ristic and Naupari both earned 6-2, 6-0 wins in the No. 1 and 2 positions. At No.3, Saguchi battled to a three-set triumph. She fell in the opening set, 5-7, before winning set two, 6-2. She clinched the match with a 10-4 super tiebreaker victory. At No. 4, Limauge was victorious by a pair of 6-4 scores, while Vesely won in two sets at No. 5, 6-4, 7-5.
