BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team wrapped up the 2018 season Saturday evening, falling to visiting High Point in four sets in Big South Conference play.
Gardner-Webb (7-22, 1-15 Big South) took the opening set by a 25-21 score, but High Point (19-9, 14-2 Big South) would answer by sweeping the next three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-20, and 25-18 to take the overall match win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had 31 kills on 115 attempts for a .078 hitting percentage. The Panthers tallied 57 kills on 124 swings for a .282 attacking rate.
GWU had a trio of attackers with seven kills each in
Maya Jeffcoat-Troy,
Molly Johnston, and
Maria Emmick.
Amanda Sahm led the 'Dogs in assists with 24.
Charissa Coleman led the team with 11 digs, while
Elizabeth Griffith led GWU on the block with three total blocks.
HPU was led offensively by Jordan Hefner, who collected a match-high 19 kills on 25 swings. Jenna Smith dished out a match-high 28 assists.
Abby Bottomley led the Panthers in digs with 20, while Hefner also led her squad in blocks with five.
