Scholl, Hurrion Ranked 26th in ITA Doubles Poll

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Heading into the spring 2019 men's tennis season, the Gardner-Webb duo of Maximilian Scholl and Millen Hurrion are ranked 26th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles poll . The ITA ranks the top-60 doubles team in NCAA Division I play.
Scholl (School Korntal-Munchingen / Stuttgart, Germany) and Hurrion (Budmouth College / Weymouth, England) earned an average of 20.40 points and narrowly missed out on a spot in the top-25, which was awarded to Northern Arizona's Ruben Montano and Tim Handel. Constant De La Bassetiere and Gabriel Nemeth of Penn State earned the top spot with an average of 67.07.
"This is the highest ranking we've had for a doubles team," said head coach Mike Griffith. "Congratulations to Max and Millen. We played four very good tournaments with these two and the results speak for themselves. However, there are many good teams and players out there who didn't get into the rankings, so this is certainly a honor and one we will cherish and be proud of. I also felt Max could of been in the singles rankings as well but maybe next time."
During the fall, Scholl and Hurrion led the Runnin' Bulldogs to the championship at the Farnsworth Invitational on the campus of Princeton University, which played a significant role in the them earning the 26th ranking.
The Farnsworth Invitational was formatted similar to the Davis Cup, with players from each school forming teams of two. Each pair played one doubles match followed by two singles matches against another pair. The team that won 2-of-3 matches advanced to the next round of the winner's bracket.
In doubles action at Princeton, Scholl and Hurrion went a perfect 4-0. The pair opened play at the Farnsworth by defeating Xandy Hammitt and Juan Sanchez of Drexel, 8-3 and Oren Vasser and Brenden Volk of William & Mary, 8-2.
Following two victories on day one, the duo dispatched a team from Temple on Saturday, before winning a doubles match on the final day of action against Jimmy Wasserman and Justin Barki (Princeton), 6-2.
Scholl and Hurrion also had a strong showing at the ITA Regionals at the University of Georgia, the first event of the fall season.
They were seeded 13th in the doubles draw and began competition against Henrik Atlevi and Ivan Mitrc of Furman. The Gardner-Webb duo earned the first-round victory, 6-2, 7-6 (8). In the second round, the duo defeated a Big South Conference pair - Nick Mckinney and Daniel Stenger of Presbyterian - 6-3, 6-4 before falling to UNC Asheville's Henry Patten and Oli Nolan in the third round. Patten and Nolan ended the fall campaign ranked second in the ITA poll, but Scholl and Hurrion earned a dominant 6-1 victory in last season's regular season finale at UNC Asheville.
The pair will now turn its attention to the spring 2019 campaign, which will begin on Saturday, February 1 with a 2 p.m. match at Coastal Carolina. For all of the ITA polls, please click here.
