RALEIGH, N.C. – Gardner-Webb sophomore Anthony Perrine led the way for the Runnin' Bulldogs Sunday afternoon, finishing in sixth place at 285 pounds at the 2018 Wolfpack Open, taking place at NC State's Carmichael Gymnasium.
 
Perrine dropped his opening bout to North Carolina's Keaton Kluever by a 7-4 decision, but would bounce back by earning three straight wins.  The 285-pounder pinned Mike Burchell of Appalachian State in 2:08 and would also earn a fall over North Carolina's Andrew Gunning.
 
In the fifth-place match, Perrine dropped a tight 6-5 decision to The Citadel's Michael McAleavey.
 
Evan Schenk also had three wins on the day at 165 pounds.  After dropping his first match to Thomas Bullard of NC State, Schenk picked up three straight victories, including a major decision, 17-7, over North Carolina's William Macdonald.
 
Schenk's afternoon would come to an end on a 13-7 loss to Rodney Shepard of UNC Pembroke.
 
Christian Trimble earned a pair of wins at 165 pounds, earning a 9-4 decision over Stephon Halliburton of Queens in the opening round, before pinning NC State's Alexander Falson in 2:40 in the consolation rounds.
 
Also earning wins for GWU today were Taylor Parks at 149 pounds, and Gabriel Pickett and Jeffery Linker, both at 285 pounds.

Competing unattached, Denton Spencer placed second overall at 149 pounds, earning four wins on the day before falling in the finals to NC State's AJ Leitten, 5-3.
 
Gardner-Webb will be back in action on Thursday, December 6, hosting Duke.  The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start time from Paul Porter Arena, with live coverage on ESPN+.
