Runnin' Bulldogs Hit Century Mark in Dominating Win Over Warren Wilson

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – All 13 Runnin' Bulldogs saw action in a 100-37 romp over Warren Wilson in Gardner-Webb's home opener on Friday night.

Lauren Adam put the 'Dogs over the century mark late in the game with an old-fashioned three-play, but it was a hot start and stellar shooting from beyond the arc that propelled Gardner-Webb to the win.

Gardner-Webb (2-0) jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the visiting Owls thanks to three-pointers by Carley Plentovich and Morgan Pointer, and the Runnin' Bulldogs would extend their lead to 17 by the end of the quarter.

After Warren Wilson (0-5) pulled within five, 10-5, Gardner-Webb embarked on a 19-7 over the final 7:29 of the period. Jhessyka Williams, Savannah Plentovich, and Alexis Hueston all contributed four points during the run.

Gardner-Webb took a 26-point lead with 4:57 remaining until the intermission as Nia Lee continued the Runnin' Bulldogs' run. The 'Dogs scored the first nine points of the second period to lead 38-12 before Warren Wilson was able to add a point to the scoreboard.

The Runnin' Bulldogs largest lead of the half was 29 points and came when Anna Munoz-Vidueira sent the 'Dogs to the locker room with a 46-17 advantage after scoring her first points in the red and black at the charity stripe with 32 seconds left.

Gardner-Webb's lead hit 40 points in the third quarter Morgan Pointer made a layup, making the score 59-19 in favor of the home team. Pointer's layup capped a 13-2 Runnin' Bulldog run to start the quarter, which was sparked by seven points by S. Plentovich.

The 40-point lead would nearly become 50 before the end of the period, as Williams, a freshman, caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting a pair of triples and adding two free throws to put GWU in front by 48 points, 74-28, with 10 minutes left to play.

In the fourth, the Runnin' Bulldogs outscored the Owls by a 26-9 margin en route to the dominating win.

It wasn't until the 5:25 mark in the fourth that Gardner-Webb extended its lead to 50, but Nia Lee's layup off a fast break made it an 85-35 score. Over the final half of the period, Warren Wilson would score just once more, while the 'Dogs would manage 15 points of their own.

A jumper by Corinna Wiegand, and three-pointers by sharpshooter Mikayla Dyson and Hueston put the 'Dogs up 58, 93-35.

Warren Wilson scored its final points with 2:23 remaining.

A second Dyson triple gave GWU 97 points, and Adam sent the crowd into a late frenzy as the freshman point guard converted a layup off a steal and went to the free throw line where it was nothing but net for the Caro, Mich. native.

Adam's and-1 put the Runnin' Bulldogs at the century mark for the first time since a November 14, 2014 win over Montreat that ended with a final score of 118-37.

Six Runnin' Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Williams with 16. Pointer added 14, while Ky'Asia Stanford and C. Plentovich contributed 12. S. Plentovich recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hueston also added 10 points.

Plentovich and Hueston combined to pull down 19 of Gardner-Webb's 61 rebounds. The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 36.6 percent from the floor and limited to the Owls to a 23.1 shooting percentage. Warren Wilson's Danasia Dumas led all scorers with 22 points.

Gardner-Webb will seek its third consecutive win on Sunday, November 11 when it welcomes the Morehead State Eagles to Boiling Springs. The 'Dogs topped MSU, 68-60, in the sixth meeting between the two schools last season.
