Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gardner-Webb's two-match winning streak was snapped by the UNCG Spartans on Sunday afternoon, as the Runnin' Bulldogs suffered a 6-1 defeat on the road.
Gardner-Webb opened the match with all the momentum as the 'Dogs won two of three doubles matches to clinch the point.
Stefano Puga and
Paul Hogan won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, while
Maximilian Scholl and
Breno Plentz recorded a 6-4 win at No. 3.

In singles play, the momentum quickly shifted to the Spartans as the home team swept all six matches. Scholl, the nation's 98th-ranked player, fell in the No. 1 position, 6-3, 6-2.
Millen Hurrion's match at No. 2 went into a super tiebreaker in the third set, but the freshman from England was defeated. Hurrion dropped the first set 6-4 before tying the match with a 7-5 victory. The tiebreaker went in favor of UNCG's Marcus Vidgren.
Paul Hogan also battled for three sets in the third position. Hogan lost the first set 6-2 but won the second set by a 7-5 score. The Lenior, N.C. native fell 6-2 in set three. Plentz's match at No. 5 sinlges went three sets as well but ultimately ended with a Spartans victory.
"It was a tough match, but UNCG is a very good team," said Griffith. We have to move on and focus on Belmont Abbey.
The loss drops the Runnin' Bulldogs to 3-5 overall. The Spartans are now 3-1.
Gardner-Webb will take another road trip when it heads to Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Match time is set for 3:00 p.m. Â
