Gardner-Webb Men's Golf Finishes 13th At 2018 Wexford

FINAL ROUND
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Gardner-Webb men's golf battled windy conditions Tuesday morning, but moved up one spot in the final round of the 2018 Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
The Runnin' Bulldogs kicked off their spring season against a tough field, and the wind added more difficulty to the 6,913-yard Wexford Course (Par 72).
Gardner-Webb finished the tournament in 13th place, five strokes back of Wofford and six strokes in front of a two-way tie for 14th between Davidson and Dartmouth. TCU won the event, followed by Georgia, Furman and Memphis.
The Runnin' Bulldogs saw senior Aaron Thomas lead the way again Tuesday, as he finished in a tie for 25th individually. Thomas shot +7 over 54 holes, carding a 76 in the final round on Tuesday morning. Thomas (73-74-76-223) finished only two strokes out of 18th position.
Charles Dallery (75-78-76-229) finished six shots off of Thomas' pace in a tie for 44th, Chad Phillips (80-73-77-230) was one stroke back in a tie for 49th and the duo of Steffen Smith (75-75-82-232) and Jake Kennedy (81-78-80-239) finished 56th and tied for 75th for the tournament.
Smith finished with 10 birdies for the tournament and both Kennedy and Thomas were among the event's leaders with 35 pars each.
The Gardner-Webb men will be back in action on March 12-14 at the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga.

The tournament is being held on The Wexford Plantation course, an Arnold Palmer signature course that measures 6,913 yards (Par 72). The Runnin' Bulldogs will play their final 18-hole round on Tuesday morning, with a shotgun start set for 8:15 am.

Gardner-Webb was paced by veteran Aaron Thomas on Monday. The senior carded a 73 over the first 18 holes and a 74 for the final round to finish in a tie for 26th individually.
Thomas overcame a bogey on his third hole of the day, the 15th, shooting even par over the next 11 holes before sinking a birdie on the 387-yard ninth. He finished the front nine 1-under par.
Thomas also finished 1-under par on the front nine in the second round, with three birdies.
Steffen Smith finished in a tie for 46th individually on Monday, firing identical rounds of 75 to finish at 150 for the day.
Smith recorded eight birdies and an eagle on Monday, with his eagle coming on the Par 5 fifth hole (543 yards).
Charles Dallery (75-78-153) and Chad Phillips (80-73-153) finished tied for 58th and Jake Kennedy (81-78-159) sits in a tie for 81st heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.
