FINAL DAY
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Gardner-Webb's women's golf team picked up a win on the final day of the 2018 Oyster Shuck Match Play Challenge, topping Big South Conference foe Radford.
The Runnin' Bulldogs took a 3-2 win over the Highlanders to finish seventh in the event, which was held at the Patriot's Point Golf Club and hosted by The Citadel.
Kristen Wong came through with a 5&4 win in the No. 1 spot Tuesday and Gardner-Webb also got wins from
Lindsay Koppel and
Allison Chandler.
Wont topped the Highlanders' Hannah Tuttle, while Koppel defeated Sidney Walker 3&2 and Chandler took a 2-UP win over Khushboo Thiagaraj.
Wofford won the title, beating North Carolina A&T on Tuesday. Appalachian State took third and Youngstown State finished fifth.
The Gardner-Webb women's team will be back on the course on March 17-18, playing in the 2018 Low Country Intercollegiate.
DAY ONE
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Gardner-Webb women's golf kicked off its spring season on Monday at the 2018 Oyster Shuck Match Play Challenge.
The Runnin' Bulldogs battled North Carolina A&T in the first round Monday morning, falling 3-2 to the Aggies.
Lindsay Koppel secured a 1-UP win over North Carolina A&T's Jill Harvison and
Allison Chandler took a 4&3 win over Madison Harriman to account for Gardner-Webb's two wins in the opening round.
Gardner-Webb took on Youngstown State in the final round of Monday's action, with the Penguins advancing after a 2-2 tie, when the Penguins Courtney Shutt birdied No. 18 – the second playoff hole – to end the deadlock.
Koppel again won for the Runnin' Bulldogs, taking a 1-UP win over Kara Raines. Gardner-Webb also recorded a win in the No. 4 match individually due to injury.
The Gardner-Webb quartet of Chandler, Koppel,
Morgan Laird and
Kristen Wong hit the course in each of Monday's two rounds.
Gardner-Webb will take on Big South Conference mate Radford on Tuesday morning in the seventh-place match. The Runnin' Bulldogs and Highlanders will tee off at 8:30 am.
North Carolina A&T and Wofford will play for the title.
