Thirteen Personal Bests and Top-Five Finishes Highlight Weekend for Gardner-Webb Indoor Track and Field

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's indoor track and field team set thirteen new personal records while recording twelve top-five finishes on Saturday afternoon at the 2018 Art and Linda Maillett UNC Open, while adding an additional top-five finish for the weekend Friday at the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
Jordan Smith took home a pair of first-place finishes in the men's shot put and weight throw.  He took home the shot put title with a distance of 16.34 meters, and the weight throw title with a mark of 18.49 meters.  Ross Lucia finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 15.37 meters.
 
Sarah Coleman finished third in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters, tying her personal record.
 
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Taylor Hotchkiss timed in with a personal best 9.32 seconds to finish in fourth place.
 
Chase Thornhill took home a third-place finish in the men's 200-meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 22.45 seconds.  Mason Marshall set a new PR in the event with a time of 24.22 seconds, earning a thirteenth-place finish.
 
Kira Ramsey placed fifth in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 8.13 seconds.
 
In the men's mile run, Mitchell Brown finished in fifth place with a time of 4:36.07.  Sam Hermanns and Bogdan Podgaisky each set new PRs in the event, clocking in at 5:09.32 and 5:33.08 respectively.
 
Austin Evans finished in fifth place in the men's 60-meter hurdles, setting a new personal record with a time of 8.77 seconds.
 
Three top-fives were earned in the women's weight throw, as Sarah Mitchell finished in third place with a mark of 16.95 meters, followed by Natasha Akbarizadeh in fourth with a mark of 16.63 meters, and Petra Jakeljic in fifth with a mark of 15.96 meters.  Cailen Blaire followed in sixth with a personal best distance of 15.20 meters.
 
In the women's shot put, Amanda Hall set a new PR with a distance of 9.95 meters, which earned her an eighth-place finish.
 
Callie Rhea set a new personal best in the women's 200-meter dash, clocking in at 27.70 seconds to earn a twelfth-place finish.
 
In the men's 60-meter dash, Austin Billiot set a new PR with a time of 7.27 seconds, finishing in sixteenth place.
 
In the women's mile run, Amy Turlington crossed the line in eighth place with a personal best time of 5:32.38.  Hannah Jones also set a new PR in the event, timing in at 5:48.77 to finish in twelfth.
 
 The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Hannah Jones, Amy Turlington, Jenika Hrushka, and Gabby Cortese placed fourth, timing in at 4:39.07.
 
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Chase Thornhill, Carlos Williams, Patrick Sastre, and Josh Parks earned a third place finish with a time of 3:27.46.
 
Friday at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., Jordan Smith earned a fourth-place finish in the men's weight throw with a mark of 17. 81 meters.
 
In the women's weight throw, the Runnin' Bulldogs earned three top-ten finishes as Sarah Mitchell placed sixth at 16.98 meters, Natasha Akbarizadeh finished seventh at 16.65 meters, and Petra Jakeljic placed tenth at 15.93 meters.

Next up for the Runnin' Bulldogs is the VMI Winter Relays, taking place February 9-10 in Lexington, Va.
