Gardner-Webb Men's Golf Finishes 10th At 2018 Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. – Gardner-Webb men's golf hit the links early Monday morning for the 36-hole Southern Intercollegiate Collegiate Tournament, finishing 10th in the final team standings.
The Runnin' Bulldogs lowered their score by three strokes over the final 18 holes, finishing with a 36-hole score of 609 on the Athens Country Club course. That left Gardner-Webb six strokes behind eighth-place Iowa and one stroke in front of Wofford.
Senior Aaron Thomas led the Gardner-Webb squad once again, finishing in a tie for 24th individually. Thomas fired a 72 to start the day, before a second-round of 78 saw him finish at 150 for the event.
Jonathan Henry tied for 36th, using a final round of 71 to lower his score considerably. Henry shot an 81 in the opening round, but rallied over his final 18 holes to finish with a 152 on his scorecard.
Chad Phillips (75-79-154) tied for 45th and Jake Kennedy (79-76-155) finished one stroke back in a tie for 52nd. Steffen Smith (80-78-158) rounded out the Gardner-Webb squad in a tie for 67th.
Up next for the Runnin' Bulldogs is the 2018 Furman Intercollegiate, which will be held March 23 and March 24 in Greenville, S.C.
