Katie Prebble Earns Recognition from Big South Conference for Third Time in Five Weeks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the third time in five weeks, Katie Prebble has earned recognition from the Big South Conference. This time, the first baseman was named the conference's softball Freshman of the Week.

On Saturday, in just the 27th game of Gardner-Webb's season, Prebble smashed her 13th home run over the right center field fence to become Gardner-Webb's single-season home run leader. She surpassed a record that was set during the 2007 season.

For the week, she helped the Runnin' Bulldogs knock off the North Carolina State Wolfpack of the Atlantic Coast Conference and also defeat Big South Conference opponent Campbell.

The Pomfret, Maryland native was 6-for-12 (.500) at the plate in five games and drew five walks, while being hit by a pitch once. Prebble's slugging percentage was 1.000, and her on-base percentage was .632. She recorded all six of her hits in the three-game series against Campbell and had seven RBIs.

Four of her seven runs batted in came in Gardner-Webb's 12-9 victory over the Fighting Camels on Saturday.

Prebble is hitting .420 (29-for-69), which places her fourth in the Big South Conference. Nationally, she leads the all Division I players in RBIs (37) and is second in home runs (13). Among conference players, she is the leader in several statistical categories, including: home runs per game (0.5), RBIs per game (1.42), slugging percentage (1.058) and total bases (73).

Prebble and her teammates will take the field tomorrow, Tuesday, March 13, for a doubleheader against NC Central. First pitch of the afternoon is set for 4 p.m. from Brinkley Stadium.
