March 21, 2018 | Women's Tennis
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time this season, Gardner-Webb's Valentine Limauge has been honored by the Big South Conference as the women's tennis Freshman of the Week.
"Valentine is adapting to the college game and learning how to win very quickly," said head coach Jim Corn. "She continues to get better and better. We are very proud of her for earning this recognition."
Last week, Limauge, a native of Brussels, Belgium, compiled a 2-1 record in singles play, competing in the No. 5 flight.
She suffered a two-set defeat in the first match of the week against UNC Asheville, before not allowing her second opponent, USC Upstate's Morgan Dodd, to win a game. She defeated Dodd in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
To close out the week, she defeated Charleston Southern's Kimberley Koerner in two sets, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
In doubles action, She ended the week 1-2, defeating USC Upstate's duo of Noelia Acuna and Taylor Dodd. Limauge and partner Sarah Rieckmann played in the No.2 position and won the match by a 6-2 score.
In singles action, Limauge has played 10 matches this season, all in the No. 5 flight. She has a 5-5 record and is currently on a two-game win streak.
The Runnin' Bulldogs women's tennis squad will return to action on Friday, March 23. The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m., but has been moved up a day due to the possibility of inclement weather. First serve between the 'Dogs and Highlanders of Radford University will still be at 2 p.m.
