Top Finishes Highlight Gardner-Webb’s Weekend at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's outdoor track and field teams combined to post 16 top-ten finishes, including eight top-five results over the weekend at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex in Rock Hill, S.C.
 
Chase Thornhill took home the men's 400-meter dash title with a time of 47.89 seconds. His time ranks as the second-fastest time in the event in Gardner-Webb history.  Patrick Sastre finished 12th, timing in at 50.53 seconds, and Caleb Silvey finshed in 22nd with a time of 51.36 seconds.
 
In the women's hammer toss, Petra Jakeljic placed second overall with a distance of 55.60 meters.  Cailen Blaire placed 12th with a mark of 45.32 meters and Sarah Mitchell finished in 13th at 45.16 meters.
 
In the men's discus throw, Jordan Smith set a new personal record with a mark of 48.93 meters to finish in second place.  Kenneth Vanvorst finished in 27th with a distance of 27.72 meters.
 
Karin Sastre earned a third-place finish in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.55 meters, setting a new personal record.  Sarah Coleman placed eighth at 3.25 meters.
 
Carlos Williams finished in third in the men's 200-meter dash, timing in at 22.25 seconds in the finals.  In the preliminaries, he timed in at 22.01 seconds to set a new PR.  It also ranked as the third-fastest result in school history.  Ralph Jolly clocked in at 24.31 seconds to finish in 50th, while Austin Billiot and Roman Eddleman clocked in at 24.38 second and 24.64 seconds to place 51st and 52nd respectively.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Caleb Silvey, Carlos Williams, Patrick Sastre, and Chase Thornhill finished in fourth, timing in at 3:23.68.
 
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Taylor Hotchkiss finished in fifth place with a finals result of 16.05 seconds.  In the preliminaries, she set a new personal record with a time of 14.91 seconds.  Amanda Hall finished 22nd, clocking in at 17.32 seconds and Callie Rhea timed in at 18.80 seconds to place in 26th place.
 
Ezekiel Martin took home a fifth-place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, timing in at 10:19.03.
 
Patrick Sastre placed seventh in the men's 800-meter run, crossing the line at 1:59.07.  Josh Parks finished in fourteenth with a time of 2:01.67.
 
Austin Evans earned a seventh-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.50 seconds in the finals.  In the prelims, he timed in at 15.69 seconds to advance to the finals. Ralph Jolly finished in 13th place with a time of 16.66 seconds.
 
In the women's 4x100-meter relay, the team of Kira Ramsey, Callie Rhea, Maya Mallory, and Diviana Forrest placed seventh with a time of 49.80 seconds.  The team of Taylor Hotchkiss, Karin Sastre, Ashleigh Cleveland, and Hannah Sparacio finished tenth at 51.17 seconds.
 
The team of Diviana Forrest, Taylor Hotchkiss, Ashleigh Cleveland, and Hannah Jones placed ninth in the women's 4x400-meter relay, clocking in at 4;14.08.
 
In the women's 1,500-meter developmental run, Gabby Cortese finished in tenth place with a time of 5:03.21.  Jenika Hrushka placed 27th with a time of 5:17.80.
 
Sam Hermanns placed tenth in the men's 800-meter developmental run, clocking in at 2:12.83.
 
Sarah Mitchell finished in 11th place in the women's discus throw with a mark of 39.37 meters.
 
In the women's 800-meter run, Hannah Jones took home a 13th place finish with a time of 2:28.43.
 
Amanda Hall finished in 13th in the women's javelin with a distance of 25.35 meters.  Taylor Hotchkiss followed in 14th with a mark of 25.19 meters, and Ashleigh Cleveland placed 17th at 22.10 meters.
 
In the men's long jump, Austin Evans placed 16th with a mark of 6.24 meters.
 
Bogdan Podgaisky finished in 20th in the men's 1,500-meter developmental run, crossing the line at 4:59.08.
 
In the women's 200-meter dash, Hannah Sparacio placed 20th, timing in at 26.11 seconds.  Maya Mallory finished in 54th with a new personal-best time of 27.72 seconds.
 
In the women's long jump, Taylor Hotchkiss placed 22nd with a mark of 4.80 meters.
 
Diviana Forrest finished in 22nd in the women's 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.97.
 
Keaton Poole clocked in at 4:35.15 to place 23rd in the men's 1,500-meter run.
 
Amanda Hall finished 27th in the women's shot put with a distance of 9.32 meters.  Callie Rhea placed 37th with a mark of 7.37 meters.
 
Kenneth Vanvorst placed 28th in the men's shot put with a mark of 8.69 meters.
In the men's 100-meter dash, Mason Marshall clocked in at 11.28 seconds to finish in 33rd place.  Austin Billiot placed 36th with a time of 11.39 seconds, and Chris Tobin finished in 48th with a time of 11.69 seconds.
 
Mitchell Brown finished in 38th place in the men's 5,000-meter run, timing in at 16:31.40.
 
Logan McGuirt set a new personal record in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:43.77 to place in 39th place.  Sydney Davis finished in 41st at 21:09.28.
 
Maya Mallory placed 41st in the women's 100-meter dash, clocking in at 13.37 meters.
 
Next up for the Runnin' Bulldogs is the Bill Webb Combined Events Classic in High Point, N.C., beginning on Thursday, March 29.
