Women's Golf Sits In Ninth After First Day At Big South Championship
April 13, 2018 | Women's Golf
NINETY SIX, S.C. – Gardner-Webb finished two rounds on a very busy Friday at the 2018 Big South Women's Golf Championship and sits in ninth heading into Saturday's final 18 holes.
The event was played on the 6,175-yard Patriot course at Grand Harbor for the second-straight year.
Impending rainy weather on Sunday forced the Big South's teams to get in a grueling 36 holes on Friday, beginning with a 9:00 tee time for the opening round.
Gardner-Webb's foursome started the day in both rounds at the 10th hole.
Sophomore Allison Chandler, who led Gardner-Webb to a second-place finish last season on the same course, paced the Runnin' Bulldogs again on Friday.
She carded a 78 over the first 18 holes and finished the day tied for 29th position (78-83-161).
Chandler had a key birdie on the eight hole near the end of her first round and recorded an eagle on the 18th hole in the second round to end her front nine on a high note.
Kristen Wong (t-36), Morgan Laird (42) and Lindsay Koppel (43) rounded out the scoring for Gardner-Webb.
Defending champion Campbell finished the day with a commanding 28-stroke lead on second-place Charleston Southern.
The final round will begin on Saturday morning at 8:00 am.
