Booth Records Seven Hits as Gardner-Webb Splits With Charlotte

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Andria Booth went 7-for-7 in two games as the Runnin' Bulldogs split with the Charlotte 49ers, losing 6-1 in game one and winning the final contest of the day, 6-2.

Game One: Charlotte 6, Gardner-Webb 1

Booth began her perfect afternoon at the plate with a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first but would not come around to score.

Although Kaylee Wacaster walked and stole second to give Gardner-Webb (24-20 overall) two runners in scoring position, a strikeout ended the inning.

Charlotte (15-28 overall) drew first blood in the third when three singles helped the 49ers push two runs across the plate and take the early lead.

Gardner-Webb threatened in the bottom of the third when Booth began the inning with her second hit of the game. She moved 120 feet to third base, and Katie Prebble found herself on second after singling and getting a stolen base.

The end of the inning was similar to the first inning of play as Charlotte recorded the third out and did not allow the Runnin' Bulldogs to put any runs on the scoreboard.

In the top of the fourth, an RBI double made it a 4-0 game in favor of Charlotte. The score would remain the same until two innings later when the 49ers added two additional runs on an RBI triple. The visitors scored their sixth and final run of the game in the top of the seventh.

Gardner-Webb scored its first run of the contest in the bottom of the final inning. With two outs, Lily Pressley, Booth and Katie Stettler all singled, loading the bases for Prebble. Prebble followed with a single of her own, scoring Pressley.

Prebble's RBI base-hit made it a 6-1 contest, but Charlotte was able to retire the final batter and earn the victory.

Charlotte's Haley Wiseman (10-7) earned the win. She pitched a complete game and gave up just one earned run on nine hits, while striking out six. Ashley Wark (16-11) also pitched a complete game but took the loss. Wark surrendered six earned runs and allowed 13 hits.

At the plate, Booth was a perfect 4-for-4, while Prebble was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Game Two: Gardner-Webb 6, Charlotte 2

Gardner-Webb (25-20 overall) scored all six of its runs over the first four innings as it split the doubleheader with Charlotte (15-29 overall) thanks to a 6-2 win in game two.

Booth recorded her fifth hit of the day in the top of the first. After singling, Prebble tried to steal second but was caught in a run down, which allowed Booth to score, giving the 'Dogs a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the following inning, Lauren Huffman doubled and Allie Barrick entered to pinch run. Barrick scored on an error, which also allowed Jenna Wacaster to reach base.

Wacaster scored when Booth added an RBI to her stats for the afternoon, pushing Gardner-Webb's lead to 3-0.

In the next inning, Prebble was the leadoff batter and hit the fourth pitch of her appearance over the center field fence. Her 21st home run of the year, a solo shot, moved GWU's advantage to four runs.

The 'Dogs scored their final two runs of the contest in the bottom of the fourth.

Booth batted in Pressley with a triple and scored on a groundout by Stettler. Although the Runnin' Bulldogs led 6-0, Charlotte would take away any thoughts of a shutout in the top of the fifth.

Haley Pace homered to centered field to put the 49ers on the scoreboard, cutting Gardner-Webb's lead to 6-2.

Over the final two innings, Gardner-Webb managed only a single, but Laken Myers shut down the 49ers to give GWU its 20th win of the season.

Myers (5-5) received the win, giving up two earned runs and five huts over five innings of work. Sam Harrell started the game and pitched two innings of one-hit softball. Allison Green (2-7) took the loss for Charlotte, spending 2.2 innings in the circle and surrendering four runs.

At the plate, Booth went 3-for-3, giving her seven hits between the two games.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow, April 19, for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against South Carolina State.
