LYNCHBIURG, Va. – After having its first match of the week canceled, the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team returned to action against the Liberty Flames on Friday afternoon and fell, 4-3, in Big South Conference play.
As the match began, Liberty (12-8, 5-1 BSC) clinched the doubles point. The Flames were victorious first in the No. 3 position and then in the No. 2 flight. Despite dropping the doubles point,
Miljana Ristic and
Sandra Bolstad were victorious in the No. 1 position. The duo's match was the last to conclude, and they won by a 7-5 score.
In singles play, the Runnin' Bulldogs (3-12, 0-6 BSC) fell in the first four matches, which allowed the Flames to seal the victory. At No. 2 singles,
Sarah Rieckmann lost 6-1, 6-0, before Bolstad was defeated in the No. 1 position, 6-0 in set one and 6-2 in set two.
After
Paula Romero (No. 6 singles) and
Valentine Limauge (No. 5 singles) both fell in straight sets,
Daniela Naupari won Gardner-Webb's lone match of the afternoon.
Naupari played at No. 4 singles and earned the victory over Liberty's Rebekah Anderson, 6-3, 6-2.
The match concluded with Ristic suffering a 7-5, 6-4 defeat in the No. 3 flight.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will have little time to rest as they return to action at Longwood tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, April 7. First serve between the 'Dogs and Lancers is set for 1 p.m.
