Men's Tennis Adds Pair of Signees for 2018-19

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – After inking Nicolas Ulehla to a National Letter of Intent last fall, head men's tennis coach Mike Griffith announced the signing of Sebastian Harris and Bonaventura Durall today.
Harris (Berkshire, England / Millfield School) played prep tennis at the Millfield School and was ranked as high as 20th in the United Kingdom's U18 rankings. He was the captain of his Millfield team and has a solid relationship with current Gardner-Webb tennis players Ross Gilbert and Millen Hurrion. At GWU he plans to major in business management or marketing.
"We set our sights on signing Sebastian early, and I'm glad things worked out," said Griffith. "He comes from a very prestigious school in England and is an excellent doubles player who won't beat himself in singles either. He has a solid all-court game and will make an impact for us."
In addition to Harris, Bonaventura Durall (Barcelona, Spain / Fert Batxillert) has signed as the third member of the program's 2018-19 recruiting class. The native of Spain, who goes by Ventu, has won all of his region championships since the age of 13. He plans to study business or economics.
Said Coach Griffith of Durall: "He's a super talented player and has a great game, which is built primarily around his serve and forehand. He likes to attack and finish the point at the net."
With the addition of Ulehla, Harris and Durall, the veteran head coach is pleased with the 2018-19 recruiting class and is looking forward to stepping foot on the court and competing.
"Overall, when we went after this class we were looking for great team people and players with talent," said Griffith. "I think we achieved this but time will tell. We had to replace a great senior class, not just on the court but off the court as well."
Something that bodes well for the Runnin' Bulldogs is the fact that they have two former Big South Conference Freshman of the Year winners still on the roster in Maximilian Scholl (2016 winner) and Hurrion (2018 winner). Last season, Scholl and Hurrion were named to the First-Team All-Conference doubles squad, and the duo also made the First-Team All-Conference singles team.
"Next year we are playing with a lot of upperclassmen and are the only team in the conference with two Freshman of the Year winners on the roster," noted Griffith. "In all honesty, the only thing that matters is how good the team does. Team success is our goal. We have the team, the schedule, and means to win conference next season."
