Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At 2018 GolfWeek Program Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Gardner-Webb men's golfer Patrick Wu finished seventh individually to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish at the 2018 GolfWeek Program Challenge.
Wu, a sophomore, led a red-hot effort by the Runnin' Bulldogs in the first round, carding a 69 to finish in a tie with Jake Scruggs – and two shots behind veteran Charles Dallery – after 18 holes. Wu continued to shine on the second day, finishing one shot behind teammate Steffen Smith for low round over the second 18 holes – with Smith shooting a 68 on Monday and Wu following close behind with a consecutive round of 69.
Wu closed the tournament with a 71, shooting even par until sinking a birdie putt on hole 13 to finish at one under for the day. He finished the tournament with 12 birdies.
Dallery's first round gem took advantage of six birdies – including four on the front nine – as he finished at a sizzling five under for the day. Smith's day two score also utilized six birdies, with three on the front and three on the back. Smith added an eagle on Tuesday as he battled to even par on the day.
In addition to Wu's top-10 finish, Smith finished in a tie for 15th, Zack Byers (74-71-73-218) finished in a tie for 37th, Dallery (67-76-77-220) finished tied for 43rd and Scruggs (69-77-76-222) finished tied for 50th.
Gardner-Webb (278-284-292-854) finished two shots in front of Florida Gulf Coast and was just four strokes behind the duo of Jacksonville State and Stephen F. Austin in a tie for second. Big South foe Campbell won the tournament by 34 strokes (269-274-273-816).
All five GWU golfers finished with double figures birdie totals for the tournament.
