Neydja Petithomme scored seven points in the final 75 seconds to lead Gardner-Webb to comeback win over the Presbyterian College Blue Hose, 66-58, on Tuesday evening.
The lead changed teams four times in the fourth quarter alone, with Gardner-Webb taking the lead for good with 40 seconds remaining thanks to Petithomme's triple from the right wing.
The win was the Runnin' Bulldogs' first over the Blue Hose since the 2015-16 season. Prior to tonight's victory, the last time Gardner-Webb was victorious against Presbyterian was on February 16, 2016. The Runnin' Bulldogs won that game by 11, 51-40.
It was a back-and-forth game in the opening half, with the lead changing hands seven times and Gardner-Webb leading at the intermission, 32-30.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (9-7, 3-1 Big South Conference) led for 12:52 of the first 20 minutes and trailed for slightly more than four minutes (4:15).
Gabrielle Caponegro put Gardner-Webb up four with 90 seconds left in the opening quarter, but the Blue Hose would trim the Runnin' Bulldogs' advantage to a point, 17-16, at the end of the first 10 minutes.
Presbyterian (4-15, 2-3 Big South) would tie the contest two times early in the second quarter before taking a 23-21 lead with 7:04 left until the half. The Blue Hose would not lead by any more than three points, and the lead would ultimately change three times before the teams headed to the locker room with the score in favor of Gardner-Webb.
Carley Plentovich put the Runnin' Bulldogs in front with 3:24 until the intermission and Gardner-Webb's next field goal came from her twin,
Savannah Plentovich, with 1:20 on the clock. S. Plentovich's three-pointer pushed Gardner-Webb's lead to four, but PC would score late to make it a one-possession game in favor of the 'Dogs at the half.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened up a double-digit for the first time with for the first time with 3:31 to go in the period when S. Plentovich hit a pair of free throws. When Presbyterian cut the lead to single digits, Plentovich would do the same to make it a 10-point again 20 seconds later.
At the end of the third, Gardner-Webb led, 49-40.
Presbyterian began the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run in just over two minutes to cut the Runnin' Bulldogs' lead to 49-46, but Caponegro stopped the run with a jumper from the right elbow, pushing Gardner-Webb over the 50-point mark for the sixth straight game.

Morgan Pointer's three-pointer put the Runnin' Bulldogs back in front.
The lead changed twice in the final two minutes, with Presbyterian taking a one-point lead before Petithomme entered the game and knocked down a trey with 75 ticks of the clock left. Petithomme's triple gave Gardner-Webb a 58-56 lead.
Petithomme would extend GWU's to two possessions with 40 seconds left via fastbreak layup and would ice the game 20 seconds with a pair of free throws to help give Gardner-Webb a 66-58 victory.
C. Plentovich led Gardner-Webb in scoring with 17 points. The junior guard hit double figures for the third straight game. Caponegro scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds. S. Plentovich scored nine points, while Petithomme added seven, all in the final 75 seconds. The 'Dogs shot 36.2 percent (19-of-58) for the game.
Presbyterian was led by senior Kacie Hall who scored a game-high 18 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the floor. Hall went 8-of-10 at the free throw line. The Blue Hose shot 50 percent (19-of-38) from the floor.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will begin a two-game Big South Conference homestand on Saturday, January 19, when the Winthrop Eagles visit Boiling Springs for the first contest over the season between the two schools. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
