LYNCHBURG, Va. – A pair of new school records were set, along with a handful of new personal records, as the Gardner-Webb indoor track and field teams competed at the 2019 Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Va. over the weekend.
Chase Thornhill finished second in the men's 400-meter dash, clocking in at 48.30 seconds to set a new school record. His time was nearly just over three-tenths faster than the previous GWU record of 48.61 set by David Lloyd in 2001.
Austin Buzzard finished 36
th with a time of 52.72 seconds.
In the men's 1,000-meter run,
Patrick Sastre placed seventh overall, setting a new school record in the event with a time of 2:31.99. His time was just over half a second quicker than the previous record of 2:32.52, set by Josiah Brooks-Stanton in 2011.
Sam Hermanns placed 26
th at 2:58.62.

Chase Thornhill placed fourth in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:20.24, which ranks as the third-fastest time in the event in GWU history. The grouping of

Bogdan Podgaisky finished 23
rd at 3:43.03.
Khalilah Conway finished seventh in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters, equaling her career best.
Julian Smallwood finished seventh in the men's shot put with a mark of 15.70 meters, setting a new personal record.
Nate Wonsley IV placed 19
th at a personal-best 14.49 meters.
Kenny VanVorst placed 41
st at 12.71 meters.
In the women's weight throw,
Petra Jakeljic placed tenth with a mark of 15.88 meters.
Cailen Blaire finished 18
th with a throw of 14.27 meters, and
Taliyah Wade finished 21
st at 13.36 meters, setting a new personal record.
Karin Sastre took home a tenth place finish in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters.
Louise Schmidtgen finished 16
th at a career-best 3.20 meters.
In the women's 800-meter run,
Hannah Jones took home a 12
th place result, clocking in at 2:24.84.
Kenny VanVorst placed 13
th in the men's weight throw with a toss of 14.34 meters.
Taliyah Wade finished 15
th in the women's shot put with a toss of 12.28 meters.
Arleasia McGee finished 31
st with a mark of 10.85 meters.
In the men's triple jump,
Austin Evans placed 21
st with a mark of 13.00 meters, setting a new PR.
Carlos Williams finished 24
th in the men's 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 22.36 seconds.
Mason Marshall finished 70
th at 24.26 seconds.
In the women's 4x400 meter relay, the team of

th in the 60-meter hurtles, timing in at 9:69 seconds.

In the women's one-mile run,
Sandra Bolstad timed in at 5:41.54, setting a new personal record, en route to a 32nd place finish.
Kira Ramsey placed 45
th in the women's 60-meter dash, timing in at 8.19 seconds.
Mitchell Brown clocked in at 4:59.15 in the men's one-mile run to finish in 47
th place.
In the men's 60-meter dash,
Mason Marshall timed in at 7.33 seconds to place 58
th.
Chris Tobin finished 71
st with a time of 7.56 seconds.
In the women's 200-meter dash,
Kelsey Houser timed in at 29.33 seconds to finish 71
st overall.
Gardner-Webb returns to action next weekend at the ETSU Buccaneer Invite in Johnson City, Tenn.
