BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb begins its Southern Conference slate on Tuesday night, taking on Appalachian State at 7:00 pm at Varsity Gym in Boone, N.C.
 
Gardner-Webb (2-3) returns to action following the 2019 Southern Scuffle this past week, in which both Evan Schenk and Tyler Marinelli picked up multiple victories at 157 and 165 pounds respectively, while Kyle Homet (174) and Anthony Perrine (197) each picked up a win at their respective weight class.
 
Schenk and Marinelli each pace the Runnin' Bulldogs this season with 11 wins throughout the season. Marinelli remains undefeated in dual matches this year with a 4-0 record.
 
Tuesday opens an active stretch for GWU, in which the 'Dogs will have matches on the road against Franklin and Marshall College on January 12 in Richmond, Va., and Hofstra on January 20 in Lexington, S.C., before returning home to host The Citadel on January 23 inside Paul Porter Arena.
 
Appalachian State (2-5) had three wrestlers medal at the Southern Scuffle, as Alan Clothier and Randall Diabe placed seventh at 184 and 197 pounds respectively, and Matt Zovistoski finished eighth overall at 149 pounds.
 
The Mountaineers took a 30-6 decision in Boiling Springs when the two teams faced off last season.
