BOONE, N.C. – Sophomore
Linnea Hofgren captured medalist honors on Tuesday afternoon, carding a final round of 70 to lift Gardner-Webb to a second place team finish at the 2019 Hounds Ear Intercollegiate women's golf tournament.
Hofgren sank six birdies over 36 holes and ranked as the tournament co-leader with a 1-under average score on Par 5 holes. She also finished among the event's best in Par 3 and Par 4 scoring.
After a first round of 74 on Monday (4th), Hofgren returned to the course and moved past everyone with a tournament-best round of 70. She finished three strokes in front of second-place Hannah Wang of host Appalachian State.
Senior
Allison Chandler sat in a tie for second place after Monday's first round (73) and held on with a Tuesday round of 78 to finish in fifth pace by herself – helping Gardner-Webb's team chances considerably.
Gardner-Webb (313-306-619) shaved seven strokes off its scorecard on Tuesday to move past Appalachian State for second place – and finish seven strokes behind team champion William & Mary.
Freshman
Suthasinee Sridet (81-76-157) had a strong finish to pull into a tie for 12th on Tuesday. Classmate
Gillian O'Brien (87-82-169) finished in a tie for 31st and junior Lindsay Kopek (85-87-172) finished 35th.
Two more events remain this fall for the women's golf squad, with a trip to Ninety Six, S.C., for the Patriot Match Play up next on October 21-22. The Runnin' Bulldogs will wrap the fall up with the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, S.C., on October 28-29.
