Runnin’ Bulldogs Win Pair of Finals Matches at Big South Fall Invite

CLINTON, S.C. – To wrap up the fall portion of the schedule, men's tennis coach Mike Griffith took four players to Clinton, S.C. to compete in the Big South Fall Invite hosted by Presbyterian College, which was highlighted by a pair of victories in consolation finals matches.
For the Runnin' Bulldogs, Connor Enslin, Sebastian Harris, Breno Plentz and Victor Putter competed.
"It was a good way to end the fall season with a pair of finals wins," said head coach Mike Griffith. "Our team knows we'll have a target on our back since we won the regular season, but this group will work hard to help us remain successful."
"In doubles action, Connor Enslin and Sebastian Harris suffered a loss to Campbell's Ondre Labik and Bastien Huon, 8-4, on Friday afternoon. Victor Putter and Breno Plentz earned a hard fought 8-7(7) victory over Leon Roider and Fernando Bernardes of USC Upstate. They fell in the quarterfinals to Radford's Rodrigo Magalhaes and Yeven Sirios, 8-2, on Saturday morning.
Enslin and Harris rebounded in the back draw with three straight wins, claiming the championship with a win over a duo from Campbell.
To start singles, Putter defeated Rodriguez, 3-6, 7-6(5), 2-2 (ret.). He did not advance past the quarterfinals as he fell to Presbyterian's Maxwell Benson 6-2, 6-1 in his final match on Friday.
Plentz also earned a victory in the first round of the main draw, topping Magalhaes in his first match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the quarterfinals on Friday evening, he fell to Labik in three sets. After winning the first set, 6-3, he dropped the last two sets 7-5 and 6-1 respectively.
Harris and Enslin both dropped their first round matches in the main draw. Enslin dropped a two-set decision to Campbell's Raphael Calzi, 6-2, 6-3, while Harris was defeated by Winthrop's Abhimanyu Vannemreddy, 6-2, 7-5.
In the back draw, Harris and Enslin both took on players from Hampton University on Saturday morning. Harris battled Basil Post, and Enslin competed against Fayzullokhon Mavlyudov.
Harris defeated Post, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals, but lost to UNC Asheville's Leo Bierbaum in the semifinals. Bierbaum took both sets by a 6-3 score.
Enslin advanced to the final day of competition with a pair of wins. He defeated Mavlyudov, 6-1, 6-3 and battled for a three-set victory over Presbyterian's Daniel Stenger Valdes. Enslin's 6-1, 1-6, 1-0(7) victory over Stenger Valdes secured him a spot in Sunday's back draw semifinals.
On Sunday, Enslin faced off against Presbyterian's Teodo Cariov at 8:30 a.m. Cariov reached the semifinals with wins over USC Upstate's Luka Eble and Radford's Andres Silva. He defeated Cariov, 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the finals. In the finals, Enslin earned a hard fought win over Sirios, 6-7(7), 6-4, 1-0(5) to claim the championship
